                        Friends of Noxubee Refuge assist the Refuge with educational programs each first and third Saturday in the month. Check back often to see upcoming events. Programs are open to the general public and are free of charge unless noted otherwise.


                        January 21 –  Photographing Birds –Noxubee Visitor Center,  10a.m. - 11:30
                        Come join photographer Mark Ramirez to learn what species are good to photograph at Noxubee Refuge. From his own experiences, Mark will share tips on getting the best shots of these subjects, suggestions on gear, what photographic set-ups work, as well as some pitfalls he has encountered. The importance of etiquette among photographers and with the photography subjects also will be discussed. All these things plus a slide show and a question and answer session; don’t miss it.  

                        February 4 – Fun With Rocks and Minerals – Noxubee Visitor Center, 9:30 a.m. - 12 noon
                        The program will explore glowing crystals, minerals that explode, a mineral that is regularly eaten, a mineral used for writing and another to write upon. Among rocks that will be discussed is one that floats on water, one that has been to outer space, rocks with a recorded history and rocks that are radioactive and more. Come and explore a wide variety of rocks and minerals.

                        February 18 –  Bluebird Workshop – Noxubee Visitor Center, 10 a.m.
                        Parents who want to encourage young birders should bring their children to this free workshop.  The day includes an information session on the Eastern Bluebird, watching a short video and then building a blue bird box to take home. Come and join the fun and learn a few things too! Call 662-323-5408 for reservations as materials are limited.

                        March 17 – Canoeing Bluff Lake, 9 a.m - 3 p.m.
                        Canoes, life jackets and paddles will be available for canoeing on Bluff  Lake at no charge. This is a great opportunity to explore canoeing, the rookery and cypress stands.  Canoes will be launched near the Bluff Lake Boat Ramp.
